I got an email today from my wife, asking me about my upcoming show in Summerfield, NC. She asked if I had submitted the info for the gig to GoTriad, because it had shown up on one of their websites. I emailed her back and asked her how she had found out about it, if she found it herself or if someone at her work had told her about it. She told me she googled our names out of boredom, and found the info that way.

I’ve heard about how dangerous it is that internet stalkers can put your phone number in a seach engine and usually find your address, a map to your house, and your favorite pets name (sometimes), but every once in a while, it’s a good thing to be found online.

When my wife and I first started communicating with each other (we met on the EVIL website known as myspace!), she googled me one day while she was at work. The servers were down for some maintenance or what have you, and she had some time to kill. I guess she figured she’d see if this Matt Brady guy was as awesome and cool as he seemed from his messages & IMs. So she googled me. She found my website, located my email address, and sent me a message that day.

The funny (ironic) thing is that my wife jokingly said that she wanted to make sure I wasn’t some internet stalker, and even after that I was known to some of her friends & family as ‘that random guy from the internet’. I was introduced several times like that, if memory serves…

I know information can be dangerous if left in the hands of those with evil intentions and foul motives, but I’m glad that my wife could find me on google. Looks like those search engines can be handy for all kinds of searches, even for finding a mate!
